Air Show

Last year, we attended our first Offut AFB air show with the Blue Angels. I've always been infatuated with airplanes. But Blue Angels take the infatuation to another level! This year, I missed the air show on the base grounds but I caught the tail end of it at my mom's then place of employment where they were doing a fly over. No Blue Angels this year, but the Thunderbirds didn't disappoint me! Fortunately I had my camera along and grabbed a couple of pictures from my poor vantage point.

Next year, I'm hoping for a front row seat.

Washington, DC

Last week, Wendy, Dana, and I spent 3 days in the Nation's Capital. We were officially in town for a ladies' retreat in my home church, Crossroads Baptist Church in Bailey's Crossroads, VA. And unofficially, we were there to get some sight-seeing in! I mean, who goes to Washington, D.C. and doesn't explore the famous Washington Monument, Arlington Cemetery, and the Lincoln Memorial, among so many other hot spots? Having lived in Falls Church for 4 years, I was the designated driver. Every time I go back, I'm reminded of my appreciation for city streets designed with a grid in mind. And a few million less in the population.
I know you want to see a few of the places we visited.

Like...the food court in Union Station where they have funky sunglasses and kewl hats (that probably 30 other people have tried on at one point in time or another). This style is definitely a look that will get Dana a good catch.

And the nifty little watchyamacallems in the stairwell to the parking lot at Union Station.

And then there's the Capital. After all, that's why they call it "The Nation's Capital" right?

I'd like to have some of these lamp posts lining my driveway. Wouldn't you?

Drumroll paleeeez....it's that pencil thingy!
The Washington Monument, Dana?

I love how you feel an automatic quiet and reflective spirit at the Vietnam War Memorial. I've never seen so many flowers and letters written to the fallen veterans of this tragic war before, and I've been to the wall many times. I was very moved.

Narcissism at its finest.

Have you ever needed to rest from sitting? This honest gent has been sitting here a long time. I wonder if he ever stands up when the memorial is empty? Do the security guards know something we don't know?
Lincoln Memorial
I love columns. Some day I'm going to replace the fake metal ones on on my front porch for a set like this:

These guys will just plain make you cry. As unromantic as this sounds, my first picture with my husband-to-be was in front of the Korean War Memorial. Hmmmm...what does that say about us?

More to come later. Hold your horses everyone. I know...you just can't wait can you?
